What is Postnatal Yoga?
Postnatal yoga is the perfect way to rebalance your body and rejuvenate energy after giving birth, helping to strengthen the pelvic floor and rebuild core awareness.
You will be guided through a series of yoga poses synchronised with the breath to release any tension, bringing a moment’s calm to those sometimes-challenging newborn days. The class is a great opportunity to connect with other mums and discuss common concerns as well as engage with your baby by sharing your postnatal yoga class.
Feel free to nurse, bounce, feed and walk around as needed. The class is open to mothers 6 weeks post-birth (or until ‘signed off’ by a GP) and to all pre-crawling babies. Yoga mats and props are provided but please bring a muslin or blanket for baby to lie on.
Please note, if you have booked into a Postnatal class in Peckham and have a buggy, you can use the lift at the bottom of the Red Staircase. Press the bell and a member of the team will help you into the studio.

Laura Hayward-Alfia
Laura is a registered midwife and a pregnancy & postpartum yoga teacher, she teaches hypnobirthing and antenatal classes, and became a mother in 2024. She found yoga incredibly beneficial in both her pregnancy and postpartum recovery. This inspired Laura to train as a yoga teacher as she feels yoga is so important as part of the holistic preparation for childbirth, as well as the recovery postpartum.
During pregnancy, Laura missed moving her body freely and often felt achey and exhausted from bending over feeding, sleep deprivation or just the weight of carrying the baby, all the time! She really enjoyed attending postnatal classes that she attended, as they felt like not only a space that she could spend time having fun and bonding with her baby, but she knew she would walk out feeling calmer.
Laura loved gifting herself a weekly moment to move my body, as well as reset and regulate her nervous system! Laura’s classes are always slightly unpredictable (as is parenting!) with tiny people in the room, but are also full of postures and poses that you can do with your baby, whilst also giving space to focus on yourself. She will encourage you to take the class at your own pace and stop whenever you might need to, or maybe to feed or rock your baby.

Orishemma Shombe
Orishemma Shombe discovered the benefits of yoga and meditation over 20 years ago. This instigated her journey on becoming a complementary health practitioner in multiple disciplines, including: homeopathy, nutrition and massage. In 2002, whilst pregnant with her first child, Orishemma reluctantly participated in a pregnancy yoga class – this would be the catalyst that spurred her to train with the world-renowned Francoise Barbira Freedman, founder of Birthlight, in 2005. Since then, Orishemma has passionately continued her perinatal yoga training and expanded to children’s, teens and family yoga along with nurturing baby massage. She is a mother of three and works as a Lactation Consultant in the NHS with the vision of making perinatal yoga more widely accessible throughout the establishment. “Orishemma’s classes emanate an abundance of joyous loving energy, celebrating the union of parent and child.”
