Jeni putting the treat into yoga retreat

Chef Jeni…

A powerhouse of activity – amongst her many roles Jeni England is a yoga teacher, Saville Row tailor, and retreat chef heading up her own community, One Table Together. She even used to run the cafe at Yogarise Peckham so we’re super-excited to have her back in our kitchen!

Self taught, Jeni began cooking at a young age through an interest in trying bold flavours and experimenting with different techniques. This progressed to hosting dinner parties for friends, where her passion for bringing people together with food started.

As a yoga practitioner, she loved immersing herself in retreats for the deep sense of community. When she trained as a teacher in 2019 it was a no-brainer to combine her two passions into a retreats catering business.

Having run a yoga studio through lockdown and built an incredible crew of members, teachers, and staff, Jeni really knows what it takes to grow community.

When cooking for people, she always aims to capture the feeling of sitting with loved ones – that’s why she always serves family style in heaving dishes scattered across the table.

What’s on the menu?

Jeni always aims to cook with fresh, local, and seasonal produce at the centre of her dishes. What does that mean for France at the end of September, I hear you ask? Well here at Yogarise we don’t know the first thing about mediterranean seasonal produce, so we checked in with chef…

“Tomatoes!!! There is almost nothing better than fresh, proper tomatoes with some salt and olive oil in summer in Europe. It will be fig season when we’re there as well so obviously they will be on offer. I have a tattoo of figs on my arm because I love them so much!”

Sounds like heaven. Any other crowd-pleasers up your sleeve?

“My focaccia is probably the thing I love to make the most and it always gets a tonne of praise. People love the breads!”

An infectious joie-de-vivre!

Whilst Jeni carves it up in the kitchen, Carrianne Hayden will be leading this getaway’s yoga. Between the two of them, this duo have a combined lust for life that is impossible not to get swept up in. Jeni puts it simply…

“Retreats are just the best way to go on holiday. Even if you don’t know anyone else there, the fact that you have all chosen to do something immersed in such a spiritual and embodied practice puts you all on the same level. You get to stay somewhere beautiful, surrounded by lovely people, get fed and looked after and come back feeling both rested and energised. What more could you ask for?!”
