Embodying Yin Yoga

The Ground of Being is a 50-hour Somatic Yin yoga training for yoga teachers, bodyworkers and dedicated practitioners ready to move beyond the shapes of Yin and into the space beneath them. Led by Louise Brown, alongside guest faculty Saskia Hawkins and Ali Bolton, the course weaves somatics, fascia awareness and Traditional Chinese Medicine principles into your Yin practice. Across two immersive weekends, you’ll learn to sequence with intention, hold space with confidence, and guide your students to become fluent in the language of their own bodies.

Why Somatic Yin?

Beyond the Shapes

Somatic Yin isn’t about the shapes you create with the body, it’s about the internal space you create within it. This training gives you the tools, science and somatic wisdom to guide your students towards a felt, embodied understanding of Yin.

A Practical Thread

Yin yoga runs through everything on this course. Fascia, nervous system care, TCM and meridian theory come in as a practical layer that supports your Yin teaching, not as subjects taught in isolation.

What You’ll Leave With

More than new ideas, you’ll leave with an embodied awareness that lets you teach from lived experience, and help your students do the same.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Yin sequencing and energetics. How to sequence Yin yoga by working with the energetics of fascia and meridian theory, creating containers of discovery for your students.

Nervous system care. How to care for your own nervous system, plus the tools to recognise and respond to others, an essential part of holding space for a class.

Nervous system and neuroscience theory. Including Polyvagal Theory, the nervous system and cycle variations, with bodywork and breathwork specialist Ali Bolton.

TCM meridian theory and acupressure. Meridian theory taught by a trained acupuncturist, and how to bring acupressure into your classes as a somatic tool for deepening awareness and care.

Yin yoga foundations. The foundations of Yin yoga poses, modifications, and the skills to embody your own variations.

Trauma-aware teaching. The wave of a trauma-aware session, and how to create containers that help students explore a felt sense of safety.

Fascia and myofascial release. The science of fascia and myofascial release techniques.

Somatic movement. The foundations of somatic movement, and how to bring it into your own classes.

By the end of the training, you’ll be able to weave these different modalities into embodied Somatic Yin sequences, feel confident holding space for a group, understand how to support your own nervous system regulation as well as your students’, and feel more embodied in your own practice.

Meet the teacher

Louise Brown

Louise Brown is a London-based yoga teacher with ten years of teaching experience and over 1,000 hours of study, spanning Vinyasa, Hatha, Rocket, Mandala, Yin and pre and postnatal yoga. In recent years she’s deepened her practice in sound healing, somatic embodiment and nervous system care, with a specialism in Yin, Somatic Yin and myofascial release, recently completing MyoYin training with Jo Phee and trauma-informed yoga and social justice training with Susanna Barkataki. She remains a dedicated student herself, teaching with a warm yet powerful style that helps students carry their practice off the mat and into their everyday lives.

Louise is joined by a guest faculty across the training. Saskia Hawkins, a trained acupuncturist specialising in women’s health and fertility, leads the TCM, meridian theory and acupressure module. Ali Bolton, a trained bodywork and breathwork specialist, delivers the Fascia & The Nervous System lecture, guiding students through Polyvagal Theory, the nervous system and cycle variations.

Got questions?

Is the Ground of Being training with Louise Brown accredited?

No, this training is not accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals (YAP) or similar. It’s a 50-hour CPD training, a wonderful way to deepen your knowledge and add a specialist string to your bow. To gain your Yogarise certification to teach Yin, you’ll need to complete the full training plus the reading and sequencing coursework.

Can I just join for one day?

Yes. Day immersions are £150 each, perfect if you want to deepen your knowledge of a specific topic, such as TCM and acupressure, or fascia and the nervous system, without committing to the full training. Email clare@yogarise.london to arrange which day suits you.

Do I need to be a qualified yoga teacher to join?

This training is designed for yoga teachers, bodyworkers, movement educators and therapists. We also welcome dedicated practitioners with a consistent Yin or yoga practice who are ready to explore their body on a deeper, more subtle level.

Who is this training for?

It’s for yoga teachers who want to deepen their understanding of Yin beyond passive stretching, and for anyone wanting to hold space by integrating somatics, fascia awareness and nervous system care into their classes. It also suits practitioners keen to bring TCM, acupressure and meridian theory into their teaching, anyone looking to offer more trauma-informed, somatic tools that regulate, restore and build resilience, and bodyworkers, movement educators and therapists wanting to expand into a slower, more internally focused modality.

Is a manual and course materials included?

Yes. Everyone signed up to the full training receives a comprehensive manual on the first day, a resource you’ll keep coming back to long after the training ends.

Can I practice with Louise before I book?

Absolutely. We always recommend trying a class with your lead teacher to ensure their style resonates with you. Louise teaches weekly Somatic Yin Yoga classes at our Peckham studio, as well as Online, every Friday 4-5pm. You can also look out for her upcoming workshops, which are a perfect taster for the full training. If you would like to book a class please contact clare@yogarise.london

What is the self-study, and when do I get it?

Self-study is sent out before the course starts, so you can deepen your knowledge and awareness of your internal landscape ahead of the first weekend. In order to know how we’ll get to the destination, we first need to know where we’re coming from.

What is the assessment process for certification?

To receive your Yogarise Somatic Yin Training Certificate, we require 100% attendance across both weekends and the Friday night class, as well as completion of your self-study work. There is a practical teaching assessment on the final afternoon.

Is there a payment plan available for this training?

Yes. We want to make our specialist trainings as accessible as possible. You can secure your spot with a deposit, followed by interest-free, no-fee monthly instalments to spread the cost. To set up a bespoke payment plan that works for you, please get in touch with our Director of Trainings, clare@yogarise.london

Help! I have more questions!

We love questions! Choosing a 50-hour training is a big step in your teaching journey. If you need more details on the syllabus, TCM modules, or the sound healing elements, please email our Director of Trainings, Clare, at clare@yogarise.london. She would be happy to chat through the course or even meet for a cuppa at the studio to answer your questions.

Four Immersions

This 50-hour training is built up of four separate immersions. You’re welcome to join for an individual day to deepen your specific knowledge of a topic, or, to gain certification to teach Yin yoga, join the full training plus complete reading and sequencing coursework.

Friday night will be a Somatic Yin and Sound immersion, to land into the space, the ground of our being – space for the cohort to settle and arrive into the language of our bodies, and create a container for learning.

We’ll then study across four days, two weekends, with a weekend off in between to rest and integrate. Each day includes a Somatic Yin immersive practice, with guest experts and guides coming in to deepen our knowledge and awareness of the nervous system and TCM.
