About the Course

Intentional Sound is an 85-hour, IPHM-certified Sound Therapy Practitioner Course, taught at Yogarise Peckham, with an All-Night Gong Puja at Yogarise Queen’s Park. It’s for anyone interested in a practical, experiential understanding of sound and how it can be used to support others in an effective, responsible way.

It is well suited to yoga teachers and trainees, somatic, breathwork, dance and movement facilitators, meditation and mindfulness practitioners, Reiki practitioners, artists, massage therapists and other wellbeing professionals, as well as those new to sound who are drawn to explore its effects and potential. Above all, it’s for those who recognise the depth and responsibility of working with sound, and who approach it with curiosity, care and intention.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The foundations of sound. The history, myths and realities of sound healing, sound versus music, brainwaves, the nervous system and states of consciousness, cymatics, acoustics, frequency systems and safety in sound.

The art of deep listening. Listening as the basis of all sound work, including musicality: notes, scales, intervals, dissonance and harmony.

Gongs and Himalayan singing bowls. An in-depth exploration of the gong and Himalayan singing bowls, their origins, technique and application.

Crystal singing bowls. How to explore, play and work with crystal singing bowls in your sessions.

Supporting instruments. Mallet exploration, plus an introduction to chimes, rattles, rain sticks, drums and handpans, and how to select, layer and integrate instruments into your practice.

Individual sound therapy. Treatment protocols, sequences and techniques, with practical guidance on facilitating one-to-one sessions.

Group sound meditations (aka sound baths). Session design, practical space considerations, holding space and energetic awareness.

The All-Night Gong Puja. Its origin, format and principles, as you co-host the night with Craig and receive the practice yourself.

Your professional sound practice. Instrument care, mallets and cases, practitioner self-care and the practicalities of shaping and offering your work professionally.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to confidently facilitate both individual sound therapy sessions and group sound meditations. You’ll select and combine instruments with intention, musical awareness and sensitivity, and understand core principles of sound in a therapeutic context. You’ll be ready to begin offering your work professionally or to weave it into your existing practice.

Got questions?

How do I become a sound therapy practitioner?

Intentional Sound with Craig Rogerson is an 85-hour Sound Therapy Practitioner Course at Yogarise in London. Across eight days and five weekends, you’ll learn to facilitate individual sound therapy sessions and group sound meditations, complete 17 hours of case studies with mentor support, and receive IPHM certification on successful completion of the course and assessment.

Who is this sound therapy course for?

It’s for anyone interested in a practical, experiential understanding of sound and how to use it to support others responsibly. It’s well suited to yoga teachers and trainees, movement, breathwork and somatic facilitators, meditation and mindfulness practitioners, Reiki practitioners, massage therapists, artists and other wellbeing professionals.

Do I need any experience of sound to join?

No. The course welcomes those who are new to sound and wellness facilitation, as well as those looking to deepen or refine an existing practice.

Is the sound therapy course accredited?

Yes. Intentional Sound is certified by IPHM, the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine. Certification is included on successful completion of the course and assessment.

Can I join without doing the certification?

Yes. If you’d prefer not to be certified, you can attend the in-person learning days without completing the case studies.

How long is the course?

The course totals 85 hours: 68 hours in person over eight days, including the All-Night Gong Puja, and 17 hours of case studies between weekends. It runs from March to July 2027.

Where does the course take place?

The learning days take place at Yogarise Peckham in the Bussey Building, South London. The All-Night Gong Puja is held at Yogarise Queen’s Park, North West London. The course is 100% in person, with no online option.

Do I need my own instruments?

Not to begin. All instruments are provided for the in-person days, and you’re welcome to bring any you already own to the second day of weekend one. You will need at least one instrument for your case studies. During weekend one, Craig gets to know your interests and focus, whether groups or individual sessions, and supports you in choosing your first instrument or instruments before weekend two.

What instruments will I learn to play?

The course focuses on crystal singing bowls, Himalayan singing bowls and gongs, with an introduction to supporting instruments such as chimes, rattles, rain sticks, drums and handpans.

Will I learn how to run a sound bath?

Yes. A full weekend is dedicated to designing and facilitating group sound meditations (aka sound baths), including session structure, holding space, energetic awareness and curating the environment.

What is the All-Night Gong Puja?

A Gong Puja is an extended overnight sound experience, traditionally centred on the continuous playing of gongs through the night. The format was developed by gong master Don Conreaux, and “puja” refers broadly to a ritual or offering. On this course, you’ll co-host the All-Night Gong Puja with Craig at Yogarise Queen’s Park on Saturday 12th into Sunday 13th June 2027, learning about its origin, format and principles and receiving the practice yourself. It’s included in the course price, and Craig will share everything you need to bring in the weekends beforehand.

What’s included in the course?

Your place includes eight in-person days, the All-Night Gong Puja, use of all instruments on the learning days, a course manual, mentor support by call, message and email throughout, and IPHM certification on successful completion. Sessions are not recorded, and the group sound meditations you attend for your case studies are not included.

How is the course assessed?

Craig assesses you continuously throughout the course. You’ll also keep a written record of your 17 case study hours, with testimonies from hosts or participants, which Craig reviews, and complete a written assessment on the final day.

How many people are on the course?

The course runs with a small group of 12 to 16 trainees.

What support is there after the course?

During the course, Craig offers mentor support by call, message and email. After graduation, you become part of Craig’s sound community, where he continues to offer support.

Is the course suitable for everyone?

Sound therapy isn’t suitable for anyone with a pacemaker. If you’re pregnant, please get in touch before booking and seek advice from your GP. The course is taught in English, so a good command of English is needed. If you have any additional learning needs, please speak to Clare before booking so we can talk through whether the course is right for you.

Can I meet Craig before I book?

Yes. Craig hosts a free, informal Course Chat over a cuppa in the Yogarise Queen’s Park café from 7pm to 7.30pm on Sunday 15th November and Sunday 13th December. There’s no need to book, just drop in. If you haven’t experienced Craig’s work before, we’d recommend booking his Group Sound Meditation afterwards, from 7.45pm to 9.45pm, so you can feel his approach for yourself. If you then book the full course, we’ll refund the cost of that event. Craig will also run a taster session in Peckham, with the date to be announced. Email our Director of Trainings, Clare, at clare@yogarise.london and she’ll talk you through the options.

Is there a payment plan available?

Yes. You can pay £250 deposit now to reserve your space and then a monthly Payment Plan – we do not charge any interest or fees for this. Full Price + Early Bird options are available for the Payment Plan. Please note the Super Early Bird price is not available on a Payment Plan and must be paid in one go.

Help! I have more questions!

We love questions! Choosing a practitioner course is a big step. Please email our Director of Trainings, Clare, at clare@yogarise.london for more information about the course.

What To Expect?

Learning takes place in a small group of 12 to 16, in an environment that encourages creativity, curiosity and exploration, where you’ll be supported to discover your own unique voice as a sound practitioner. You’ll be guided through both practitioner and participant perspectives, with structured feedback and hands-on practice to refine your technique, presence and facilitation skills. Deep listening runs through it all, as you cultivate the presence needed to truly listen and respond to the subtle dynamics of a session.

A typical learning day runs from 9am to 6pm with an hour for lunch, and morning and afternoon breaks are taken together on site. Each weekend builds on the last, moving from the foundations of sound and listening, through individual sound therapy and group sound meditations, to the All-Night Gong Puja. The course closes with a final day of integration, assessment and graduation.
