Imagine waking up to the scent of citrus groves, the sun is rising over the mountains of Andalusia, and the only thing on your schedule is a 90-minute Vinyasa flow with Rishin Paonaskar.
Leave the city behind for a secluded desert oasis on the edge of the Cabo de Gata National Park. This isn’t your typical polished resort either; it’s an authentic, award-winning, modernist Finca designed for deep rest and reconnection. Think sun-drenched olive groves, solar-powered eco-pools, and a stunningly rustic, off-grid atmosphere that allows you to truly unplug.

Q+A with Rishin Paonaskar…
Q: What makes a yoga retreat in Spain so special compared to a regular studio class?
Rishin: A yoga retreat in Spain offers an immersive experience that you simply can’t replicate in a weekly studio class. While our London sessions are great for consistency, escaping to a sun-drenched environment allows for a much deeper practice. We have the luxury of time to explore 90-minute morning and evening classes, a workshop session, and the space to truly focus on rejuvenation without the distractions of daily life. It’s about moving from ‘squeezing yoga in’ to ‘living the yoga’ for five days.
Q: Why did you choose the Cabo de Gata region for this 2026 retreat?
Rishin: “We were drawn to Cabo de Gata for this retreat because it is one of the most authentic, untouched parts of Spain. As a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the landscape is a stunning mix of volcanic mountains and wild, secluded beaches. Unlike the more built-up tourist areas, this region of Andalusia feels raw and peaceful. It provides the perfect backdrop for the kind of quiet, mindful work we’ll be doing in the Shala. I also love hiking and there are some great trails in the area to explore between classes.”
Q: What can we expect from the yoga sessions – and do I need to be ‘bendy’ to join?
Rishin: “Absolutely not! This is an accessible yoga retreat and all levels are welcome, from total beginners to long-time practitioners. You don’t need to be ‘bendy’ to join; you just need to be curious. My teaching style is methodical and uses props and modifications to ensure everyone feels supported. We’ll practice a blend of energising Vinyasa Flow in the mornings and Flow to Restore, which includes a bit of the Vinyasa before ending with Restorative Yoga. I might also bring in some myofascial bodywork at some point too, to help everyone find ease in their own bodies.”
Q: What part of the off-grid Finca experience are you most excited about?
Rishin: “I love the rustic charm and intentionally ‘unplugged’ vibe of the Finca. The modernist architecture is striking but grounded, and there is something so healing about being surrounded by 30 acres of olive groves. I’m personally looking forward to the solar-powered eco-pools and the chance for us all to enjoy a digital detox. It’s a rare opportunity to swap screen time for sunset views and deep self-connection.
“One of the things I always love about retreats is taking the time to connect with others. Some of those bonds can turn into friendships that last a lifetime. I remember going on my first retreat as a guest back in 2012 and I’m still good friends with the people I met then!”
