Why join a Beginners Yoga Class?

If you’re looking to kick-start your practice with a solid foundation, our specialist Beginners Yoga Classes are the best place to start. Our resident teachers, Becky Farbstein (Peckham) and Jill Martin (Streatham), will set you up with the essential foundations of yoga, and provide you with the confidence to begin exploring our full timetable – from dynamic vinyasa to restorative yin yoga – safely and with a clear understanding of the basics. Find out more about them below…

Becky Farbstein has a down-to-earth style that combines philosophy (and how it applies to us in this day-and-age), practical aspects of yoga (how functional movement and mobility can truly benefit your day-to-day life!) and good humour. She believes in making yoga accessible to all, and setting people up to approach their practice safely and with confidence.

Jill Martin’s beginner classes are the perfect starting point for building strength, flexibility and resilience with clear guidance on how your body works. Her classes are peppered with spirituality through a modern lens and designed in a way that meets you wherever you’re at. Expect to leave feeling lighter, calmer and more grounded.

New to Reformer Pilates? Try Fundamentals

If you are looking to build core strength and improve your posture, we now offer beginners Reformer Pilates at our Queen’s Park and Peckham studios.
For those who have never used a Reformer machine before, we highly recommend starting with our Fundamentals classes. These sessions are designed to familiarise you with the equipment and the key movements at a manageable pace, ensuring you have a safe and solid foundation before exploring the rest of our Reformer timetable.

Top Tips for your first Yoga or Pilates Class

To ensure your first visit to Yogarise is as smooth as possible, here are our top tips for new students:

    • Arrive Early: If it’s your first time at the studio, please arrive 10-15 minutes early to familiarise yourself with the space and lock away your valuables.
    • What to Wear: Comfortable, breathable clothing. We recommend leggings, lightweight trousers, or shorts, and a light top. (Grippy socks are often preferred for Reformer!).
    • What to Bring: A bottle of water (we have refill taps in reception). If you are practising from home, gather a blanket and a cushion for the final relaxation.
    • Stay Consistent: The benefits of yoga and Pilates – like reduced stress and better mobility – come with regular practice. Why not bring a friend along to stay motivated?
