We’re very excited to be welcoming Wei Ding to our studio as a guest teacher on Austin Ince’s London 50hr Yin Yoga Training: The Art of Letting Go. Wei has deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and takes a keen interest in understanding how the holistic practice has taken roots and evolved in different cultures across the world.
A Heritage of Healing
Wei’s journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) didn’t start in a classroom; it began in her family’s traditional herbal apothecary in Ningbo, Shanghai. Wei grew up surrounded by the scent of dried herbs, immersed in the quiet wisdom of a community centre rooted in classical healing. Neighbours would drop in for advice and herbs measured out from the rows of wooden drawers.
“As a little girl, I moved among those drawers…inevitably tasting many of them.”
This lifelong immersion in TCM is what she brings to our Yin Yoga training; bridging the gap between ancient theory and modern practice. She is now a TCM practitioner and Yin Yoga Teacher in London.
Bringing TCM into a Yin Yoga Training
Wei will be presenting the module: Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine on this London Yin Yoga Teacher Training. She’ll be focusing on:
- The Five Elements: Understanding the seasonal and emotional cycles of the body.
- Meridian Theory: Learning how to map the “energy highways” we target in every Yin pose and how we can use meridians to inform our sequencing of Yin postures.
- Breathing to Source: Insights from her studies in structural breathwork – methods aimed at returning breath to its natural state and supporting restoration of the body’s core structure.
Why Guest Teachers are the Best Teachers
By getting specialists like Wei Ding (and sound healer Szofia Nyakas) on board this 50hr Yin Yoga Training, we’re able make sure that our students learn more than just how to teach a pose. You get access to a fully-rounded and diverse range of perspectives from people who live and breathe their chosen modalities.
Whether it’s Wei’s deep clinical understanding of the meridian lines or Zsofia’s ability to induce a parasympathetic state through sound, these guests teachers provide our trainees with ways of thinking that set them apart in a crowded teaching landscape.
